Enrofloxacin is the first fluorquinolone-class drug specifically developed for animals by Bayer AG in 1987. It appears as a white or slightly yellow crystalline needle-like powder with a melting point of 221-226°C, odorless and tasteless. Commonly used in its hydrochloride, lactate, and sodium salt forms, this compound dissolves in acidic or alkaline conditions, is slightly soluble in dimethylformamide and chloroform, minimally soluble in methanol, and insoluble in water. Prolonged exposure to light intensifies its coloration. Storage in high-humidity environments may lead to moisture absorption and caking.
