Betaine hydrochloride, also known as betaine hydrochloride, is a type of organic compound with the chemical name (Carboxymethyl) trimethylammonium hydrochloride, Cas number 590-46-5. It is a white to slightly yellow crystalline powder, with a sour and astringent taste, hygroscopicity, easily soluble in water and ethanol, difficult to dissolve in ether and chloroform, and can react with alkali. The molecular formula is C5H11NO2 · HCl, with a molecular weight of 153.6070 and a purity usually greater than 98.0%. The grades include feed grade, pharmaceutical grade, and industrial grade.
